Absorption in a biological tissue
Absorption in a biological tissue
In this application, we wanted to study the dependency of the absorption on
the size of the absorbing surface. The space domain is a circle with a
randomly distributed number of holes. The biological process was diffusion
together with absorption on the boundary of the grains.
The complicated domain was generated automatically and meshed with
triangles. After this setup phase a Rothe time-stepping scheme was
performed. Convergence with respect to time-step and refinement level was
studied. The statistics of the process give rise to a homogenized model
which describes the process well for a large number of holes.
